Services State Housing Initiatives (SHIP) Program is funded through the Florida Housing Finance Corporation and provides assistance for eligible Jackson County families to obtain or rehabilitate housing. These objectives are accomplished in several ways. *SHIP Homeowner Rehabilitation - As an enhancement to the County's current Weatherization program and the U.S.D.A. Rural Development Sections 502 and 504 loans and grants, this program provides assistance for home rehabilitation of eligible Jackson County families, up to $30,000 in the form of a 100% Deferred Payment Loan. *SHIP Purchase Assistance Financing - This is a home-buyer loan program which provides down payment and closing cost assistance for eligible Jackson County families for up to $15,000. These funds are used for deferred payment loans to buy down the cost of the mortgage and reduce monthly payments. The loans are forgiven over a 5-year period providing the homeowner does not sell or refinance the home. Purchase Assistance is available for new homes, existing homes and DCA Approved Modular homes. SHIP funds can not be used for purchase of mobile homes. SHIP Applications may be obtained at the Jackson County Grants Department, 4487 Lafayette St., Marianna, FL 32448. Phone (850) 482-9083 *Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) Grant - Funded through the Department of Community Affairs, WAP provides energy conservation assistance (Weatherization) for homes of eligible Jackson County families. Weatherization helps with repairs such as doors, windows, insulation, caulking, weather stripping, minor ceiling, floor and wall repairs, electric, plumbing, steps, handrails wheelchair ramps, water heaters and septic systems. The program is available to very-low income homeowners, elderly, handicap and disabled applicants. *Weatherization - Low -Income Emergency Home Repair Program (WAP-LEHRP) - The WAP-LEHRP serves as an enhancement to the WAP grant. *Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) - The LIHEAP is also an enhancement program to the WAP grant which provides for emergency repairs that are not covered by WAP or LIHEAP for homes of eligible Jackson County families. Electric, plumbing, steps, handrails, wheelchair ramp, water-heater, septic systems etc. *Housing Preservation Grant Program (HPG) - HPG is funded through USDA Rural Development and provides assistance to eligible Jackson County families, up to $5,000 for housing rehabilitation and repairs.
